Molecular Quantum Gases

Welcome to our group! Our research focuses on the preparation and study of atomic and molecular gases at ultracold temperatures and molecular spectroscopy. Ultracold molecular quantum gases offer exciting new perspectives ranging from novel dipolar quantum many-body systems over the study of chemical processes at the quantum limit to precision measurements.

For the preparation of ultracold molecular samples, we follow two different and complementary approaches: On the one hand, we make use of two species atomic quantum gas mixtures to prepare near quantum degenerate samples of polar molecules. On the other hand, we work on the development of new laser cooling techniques for diatomic molecules. In view of rising interest in diatomic alkaline earth-alkali molecules in the ultracold molecular community, we perform precision spectroscopy of this class of molecules in collaboration with Prof. E. Tiemann.
